Adoption (adoption mediation)

Before a child is placed, the adoption applicants are prepared for life with another person's child. The preparation includes a suitability check by the adoption agency of the youth welfare office or an independent organization.

Detailed preparation is also necessary when adopting a child from abroad, which is carried out by the adoption agency of the youth welfare office or by the recognized foreign placement agency through which the child is to be placed.

• Extended certificate of good conduct,
• Proof of income and proof of assets to verify the financial situation,
• Health certificate to ensure that there are no life-shortening or serious mental illnesses,
• and civil status certificates.

While the placement of a domestic child is free of charge, the placement of a child from abroad incurs fees for the preparation of the suitability report and the placement, as well as additional costs for translations and certifications.
