Driver's license: Rewriting a service driver's license

If you hold a service driver's license from the German Armed Forces, the Federal Police or the police, you can have this converted into a general driver's license.

• Official proof of place and date of birth (e.g., ID card, passport)
• if applicable, a current certificate of residence
• Service driver’s license or a certificate from your agency confirming the class(es) of service driver’s license(s) granted
• Current photograph (size 45x35mm, portrait orientation, full-face shot). Information and examples can be found in the Sample Photo Chart (Bundesdruckerei)

You can have your biometric photo and signature taken directly at our terminals in the Citizens' Office. Please arrive in good time before your appointment (at least 15 minutes beforehand); the terminals with multilingual user interface are located in the waiting area.

The usage fee is € 3.50 and is charged together with the driving license fees.

The fees are based on the scale of fees for road traffic measures (GebOSt).
