Filming and shooting permits (use of public traffic areas)

A permit is required for the use of public traffic areas for film and television recordings.

If road closures, stopping bans or other measures affecting traffic are required for filming, a road traffic permit is required in accordance with the provisions of the Road Traffic Act. If no road traffic order is required for filming and shooting, a special use permit is required in accordance with the Federal Trunk Roads Act or the Hessian Roads Act.

An informal application to which the following must be attached:

• Address and contact details of the applicant/addressee (mobile/telephone, fax)
• precise details of the filming location with a sketch of the location plan
• exact dates, description of the scope and program schedule

Expenses and fees are incurred for road closures and special use.

Information can be obtained from the responsible authority in individual cases.

The application should be submitted well in advance - preferably 4 weeks before the desired date.
