License plates: Stamping

If your vehicle's license plates have become damaged or illegible, or if a sticker (inspection sticker or sticker for the general inspection or emissions test) has come off the license plate, you must affix new stickers to the existing license plates or to newly manufactured ones.

NOTE: If your license plates are stolen or lost, you must have new plates issued. Be sure to report the theft to the police!

• A valid ID card or passport with a current certificate of residence
• If represented by someone else: additionally
  • written power of attorney
  • Identity card or passport with a current proof of residence for the authorized representative
• Certificate of Registration, Part I, or vehicle registration certificate
• Certificates of valid general inspection (HU) and emissions test (AU)
• Previous license plates

NOTE: You can have any new license plates that may be required made after submitting your application. To do so, contact private providers located near the registration offices. The cost of the plates is not included in the fees.

Fees vary depending on the amount of work involved: 2.60 euros – 5.60 euros

• for the stamp: 2.60 euros
• for the HU/AU stickers: 0.50 euro each
• for the registration authority stickers: 1.00 euro each
