Mortuary passport

A corpse passport is required for the transportation of a corpse abroad.

A corpse passport is also required for the transfer of a corpse from Hesse to other federal states if their legislation requires a corpse passport for the transportation or burial of the corpse.

• Death certificate or certificate of restitution of the notarization
• Coroner's certificate
• Certificate of the second post-mortem examination
• Certificate of proper coffining by the funeral home
• Certificate from the funeral home that the transportation will be carried out with a vehicle intended for transporting the body.
• If applicable, written authorization for the commissioned funeral home
• if there are indications of a non-natural death or in the case of the body of an unknown person:
  Authorization from the public prosecutor's office or the local court
• Medical certificate from the public health department stating that there are no health concerns regarding the transportation of the body if the deceased was infected with a notifiable disease in accordance with the Infection Protection Act

A fee of 31.00 euros is charged for the issue of a corpse passport.
