How do I apply for reimbursement of school transportation costs?
School transport costs are applied for by submitting a "Basic application for the assumption of school transport costs according to §161 HSchG" when using public or private transport by the legal guardian or the adult pupil.
The following steps must be taken:
- If you have not yet been reimbursed for transportation costs, you must first submit a basic application (can be found under Links and Downloads)
- Fill out the basic application, have it confirmed by the school and send it to the city education authority (preferably by e-mail fahrtkostenoffenbachde
- Once the application has been processed by the City Education Authority, you will receive an appealable decision
- If you have received a positive decision, you will find a refund application attached. Fill this out and have it confirmed again by the school (alternatively, you can enclose a current school report with the grades blacked out). You should then attach the necessary proof of purchase of the school ticket to the application and send it, preferably by e-mail, to the City Education Office.
- You will then receive a refund at the end of the first half of the school year
GENERAL
You must purchase tickets yourself; the travel costs will be reimbursed once you have submitted an application for reimbursement.
The basic application only needs to be submitted once, provided that the pupil moves or changes school.
Reimbursement of transportation costs is not automatic - an application for reimbursement must be submitted after the first half of the school year or at the end of the school year. A copy of the letter from the transport provider stating the address, the start date of the subscription, the name of the user and the method of payment must be enclosed each time.
IMPORTANT
The basic prerequisite for the City of Offenbach to cover school transportation costs is that the student must be registered as a resident of Offenbach am Main.
What is checked:
The pupil should attend the nearest school offering admission. An entitlement to reimbursement of travel costs exists if the one-way distance to school (grades 5-9/10) is more than 3 kilometers on foot for middle school students.
For primary school pupils (grades 1 to 4 and pre-grade), the one-way distance on foot must be more than 2 kilometers. However, due to the formation of school districts, travel costs are very rarely reimbursed for primary school pupils.
Unfortunately, you are not entitled to reimbursement of travel costs as a secondary school pupil.
The Hessian School Act § 161 applies.
What is reimbursed?
Only the transportation costs incurred for school attendance, primarily by public transport.
