Together for a safe journey to school

Children are among the most vulnerable road users and therefore deserve our special consideration.

Primary school children - especially those starting school - are particularly at risk on the roads. Children are not up to the demands of today's traffic conditions.

It is the task of parents and guardians to practise the safe way to school with their children at an early stage before they start school, to explain the traffic rules to them and to point out particularly dangerous situations. It is therefore very important that you, as a parent or guardian, are a good role model for your child. The school's task is to complete and consolidate this basic knowledge.

Measures for safety on the way to school

• School route plans: Detailed school route plans are drawn up at all schools with the support of the relevant specialist departments to determine the safest routes to the schools. These plans take into account danger points and provide tips for a safe journey to school.
• Road safety education: In cooperation with parents/guardians and schools, children are taught the importance of traffic rules and safe behavior in road traffic.
• Bus, student and parent crossing guards: Guides are deployed at elementary school and ensure that children can cross the road safely. These crossing patrols receive special training and are an important part of school safety.
• Cooperation with the police: In close cooperation with the local police, danger spots are analyzed and measures are implemented to improve safety on the way to school.
  Regular traffic checks and prevention measures are carried out.

Our tips for a safe journey to school:

• Practice the way to school ahead of time, several times together with your child and point out possible dangers.
• Make sure that your child always takes the safest route to school, even if it is a little longer.
• Encourage your child to wear bright clothing or reflective materials to be more visible.
• Discuss the traffic rules regularly and illustrate their importance with practical examples.
