Special use permit on public roads and squares
Overview
If a citizen wishes to use public roads in a manner other than that intended by the road authority or in violation of traffic regulations, this constitutes a special use that is subject to a permit and a fee.
Examples of commercial special uses include:
- Vehicles or stalls used for sales
- Merchandise displays in front of one’s own stores
- Information booths
- Advertising displays/billboards
- Street cafes (setting up tables and chairs)
- Bicycle racks
- Poster displays
Scope of the Permit
The special use permit is generally granted for a limited period or subject to revocation, subject to change. This permit is subject to conditions that must be complied with.
As part of routine inspections, unauthorized special uses or non-compliance with the conditions of the special use permit will be documented, and appropriate regulatory measures will be taken (e.g., warnings, fines, penalty fees, and substitute performance).
