Preventive and early detection check-ups for dental, oral and maxillofacial diseases
The purpose of preventive dental care is to thoroughly examine the teeth and oral cavity in order to detect and treat any dental, oral, or jaw diseases at an early stage.
Overview
Dental preventive care is available to all insured individuals and is designed to detect and treat potential dental, oral, and jaw diseases at an early stage.
For children:
- Up to age 6: six visits, three of which must be during infancy (from 6 to 9 months of age, from 10 to 20 months of age, and from 21 to 33 months of age)
- Ages 6 to 18: once every six months
For adults:
- 18 years and older: once a year
- Some health insurance plans offer different coverage
Dental preventive care for adults includes
- instruction on effective oral hygiene,
- advice on reducing risk factors, as well as
- the removal of hard plaque and cavities or of irritants that can cause gum inflammation.
